Recycling Craft: Bottle Cap Beaded Door

Earth Day is right around the corner and…what am I saying…I’m a crafter and we look for ways to recycle, upcycle, and reuse EVERYTHING, no matter what day it is?  And our trash continues to be a source of infinite inspiration! So here’s a creative way to reuse plastic bottle caps and create a beaded door!

Supplies

• Lots of plastic bottle caps
• ice pick
• rubber mallet
• cutting board
• yarn
• scissors
• needle
• thumbtacks

Directions
Place your cap on the cutting board and use the mallet and ice pick to make a hole through the top. Repeat with the rest of your caps.


Cut about 6 pieces of yarn the length of your arm and begin threading the caps onto it. It’s best to just tie a big loop around the cap like you see in this picture instead of trying to make a knot above or below it, to hold it in place. You don’t have to be precise with your caps along the yarn, unless you want to.




Once you’ve got that done start hanging them with thumbtacks along the top of the doorway of your choice. We made jungle vines for my son Vin’s room.


No, that isn’t Vin, Essie’s always such a ham and happily volunteered for this picture instead. I wanted to show you that it’s important to make sure the strings don’t hang down too low. Trust me, it keeps them from getting tangled and the cat can’t reach it.
